Hospice is a philosophy of care that values life from the moment it begins to the moment it ends.
- Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of palliative care

Our History
The origin of the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society goes back to 1981 when staff members at the Strait Richmond Hospital identified a need to have optimum palliative care provision closer to home. Volunteers were recruited. To quote the Strait Richmond palliative care coordinator at the time, "The start of palliative care at Strait Richmond Hospital began with one caring volunteer meeting the needs of one terminally ill patient".
30th Anniversary of Service 1994-2024
In 1994 a group of twelve community members organized and formed the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Society. We are proud to be celebrating 30 years of volunteer efforts to support families in our area through the Strait Richmond Palliative Care Program and promote community awareness and education about palliatve care. Please check our Facebook page for monthly posts of important people and milestones of our history.
